Lewis Medlin's 5 Point Plan for Virginia Families
With 300,000 + Virginians out of work, we need to create jobs for Virginians
We can create jobs by improving our overburdened highway systems, especially Interstate 81 and Route 220. Our roadways need to be expanded and upgraded. Second, there is a growing number of people who have to work several part time jobs in order to support their families. When I am elected, I will sponsor legislation to give a $500 tax credit to businesses which hire part time workers. This will help to get more people back to work. Finally, I will fight to make sure the vitally important small businesses in our community have access to low interest loans to aid with the cost of starting up or expanding their business. Small businesses are a major source of new jobs in our community.
With revenues shrinking, we should provide the best education we can for our children
In this time of deep budget cuts, we simply cannot afford to neglect our children's education. We need to offer pre-K in our public schools, maintain a full and rounded curriculum for grades K thru 12, and ensure that all Virginians can afford the cost of a college education. We must remember that our children are the future of this great state and our nation.
With so many families losing their jobs, we need to increase access to health care
Every American should have access to a reasonably priced, high quality health care policy. It is simply unacceptable that anyone in our country could be denied access to a doctor, or have to choose between putting food on the table or buying medicine for a loved one.
With retirement packages shrinking, we need to help our seniors by freezing their real estate taxes Most of our senior citizens are on low or fixed incomes. They simply do not have the opportunity to earn additional money to pay for the ever increasing real estate taxes on their homes. It’s time, to give Virginia’s elderly a break by freezing their real estate taxes now.
A New Energy Policy for Virginia
It’s time to establish a comprehensive energy policy for Virginia. We must reduce our dangerous dependency on foreign oil and become energy independent. Virginia can also create thousands of new, high paying jobs as we utilize renewable energy technologies.
Lewis Medlin with Virginia's former Governor and now U.S. Senator Mark Warner
“I agree with Mark Warner that Virginians are tired of the hyper-partisanship and gridlock in Richmond. They are looking for new leaders who are willing to reach across party lines to get things done. They want leaders who understand that a good idea is a good idea, regardless of which party it came from. As your next Delegate, I will always put the common good of the Commonwealth first” |
